Brayan Bello
Brayan Bello Logs quality start in loss
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 8:27 PM
Bello (3-2) took the loss against the Giants on Saturday, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts over six innings.
Analysis: All three runs charged to Bello came via two home runs, including a two-run shot by former teammate Rafael Devers. Despite taking the loss, the 26-year-old has delivered four straight quality starts in June and has recorded 14 strikeouts over his last two outings. He'll carry a 3.31 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 51:29 K:BB across 65.1 innings into a home matchup with the Blue Jays next weekend.
Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman Resumes baseball activities
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 1:35 PM
Bregman (quadriceps) has begun his baseball activities progression, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reported Saturday.
Analysis: Bregman has started swinging and fielding, marking the first time he's participated in baseball activities since being placed on the injured list May 24 with a strained right quad. The third baseman had previously indicated he might skip a rehab assignment, so he may only have to clear a few more hurdles before being cleared to return from the 10-day injured list.
Kutter Crawford
Kutter Crawford Suffers setback
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 1:30 PM
Crawford has been shut down from throwing after experiencing continued issues in his right wrist, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Crawford threw a bullpen session Friday but suffered a setback and will head back to Boston to undergo more testing. In the meantime, he'll be shut down from throwing. He shouldn't be expected back before the All-Star break.
Jordan Hicks
Jordan Hicks Aiming to join BoSox on Friday
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 1:22 PM
Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Hicks (toe) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester on Sunday and has "a good chance" of joining the team next Friday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Hicks has been on the shelf since June 3 due to right big toe inflammation, but he's expected to begin a rehab assignment before hopefully joining the big-league club Friday. Hicks was traded to Boston as part of the Rafael Devers deal after logging a 6.47 ERA in 48.2 innings with the Giants this season.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Sitting Saturday
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 11:47 AM
Narvaez is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Narvaez will yield to Connor Wong behind the plate Saturday. They've each handled catchers' duties three times in the last six games. Before that, Narvaez drew the start in eight of nine games. Still, Narvaez should have a hold on the top catching spot considering he boasts a .795 OPS compared to Wong's .411 OPS.
Kutter Crawford
Kutter Crawford Throws bullpen session
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 10:24 AM
Crawford (knee/wrist) threw a bullpen session Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: This was the second such session this week for Crawford, who's had multiple setbacks in attempting to go on a rehab assignment. It's unclear what the next steps are for the right-hander. The report estimates a return date in July or August.
Kristian Campbell
Kristian Campbell Will focus on first base in minors
Fri, Jun 20, 2025, 3:49 PM
Campbell will primarily focus on learning first base at Triple-A Worcester, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
Analysis: Campbell will still see some action at second base, but the Red Sox want Campbell to focus on first base after he was optioned to Triple-A earlier Friday. The rookie primarily played second with the big-league club while also seeing some time in the outfield. With Triston Casas (knee) out for the season and Rafael Devers shipped to San Francisco, Campbell appears to be the team's next plan for first base. Campbell will also need to get his bat back on track with Worcester after he slashed just .176/.270/.231 over his last 30 MLB contests.
Kristian Campbell
Kristian Campbell Officially optioned
Fri, Jun 20, 2025, 2:14 PM
The Red Sox optioned Campbell to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Campbell has been slumping at the plate and struggling in the field recently, and Boston will send him down to Triple-A to get back on track. In his last 30 MLB games, Campbell slashed .176/.270/.231 with a 28.8 percent strikeout rate. His spot on the active roster goes to Wilyer Abreu (oblique), who is coming off the injured list.
Wilyer Abreu
Wilyer Abreu Activated from injured list
Fri, Jun 20, 2025, 2:08 PM
The Red Sox reinstated Abreu (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old landed on the shelf June 9 due to an oblique strain, but he'll end up missing just more than the 10-day minimum. Abreu has a .792 OPS with 13 homers through 234 plate appearances this season, though he was slumping prior to the injury with a .161/.182/.274 slash line and 31.8 percent strikeout rate in his past 22 games.
Wilyer Abreu
Wilyer Abreu Expected back from IL on Friday
Thu, Jun 19, 2025, 3:40 PM
Abreu (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's game in San Francisco, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The reported corresponding move will be Kristian Campbell being sent down to Triple-A Worcester, although neither transaction is official yet. Abreu has played two rehab games with Worcester, going 1-for-6, and is in line to return following a minimum 10-day absence due to a left oblique strain. He should play regularly against righties upon his activation, although some of his starts figure to come at designated hitter, given the presence of Roman Anthony.
Kristian Campbell
Kristian Campbell Will be demoted to Triple-A
Thu, Jun 19, 2025, 2:40 PM
The Red Sox are expected to option Campbell to Triple-A Worcester ahead of Friday's series opener against the Giants, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Campbell broke into the big leagues with a .301/.407/.495 batting line through the end of April, but he has slashed only .159/.243/.222 since and has also struggled defensively at second base. He'll get a reset at Worcester and has a good chance to rejoin the big club later this season. David Hamilton has started each of the last three games at second base for the Red Sox and should continue to hold down the position for the time being against righties. Once Alex Bregman (quad) comes back, Marcelo Mayer is an option to shift to the keystone.
Tanner Houck
Tanner Houck Makes brief rehab appearance
Thu, Jun 19, 2025, 10:09 AM
Houck (elbow) allowed one run on two hits and one walk over one-plus innings for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.
Analysis: Houck worked around a couple of singles for a scoreless first inning and was removed after walking the first batter faced in the second. He threw 32 pitches (18 strikes), and the short pitch count appears to have been by design. Houck told Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com that he was pain-free. He said his next rehab start will come Tuesday for the WooSox and that he'll then make a third the following Sunday.
Wilyer Abreu
Wilyer Abreu Plays field Wednesday
Thu, Jun 19, 2025, 10:00 AM
Abreu (oblique) started in right field and went 0-for-2 with a walk for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.
Analysis: This was the second rehab game for Abreu, who had served as the designated hitter a day earlier. He played six innings in the field before being lifted. An earlier report indicated the rehab assignment would be a brief one, suggesting Abreu could be back with the team in time for Friday's series opener against San Francisco.
Greg Weissert
Greg Weissert Notches another save
Wed, Jun 18, 2025, 8:25 PM
Weissert walked one in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his third save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Mariners.
Analysis: All three of the right-hander's saves have come since June 10, but the first two opportunities arose while Aroldis Chapman was getting a rest due to a heavy workload. That wasn't the case Wednesday -- Chapman pitched the eighth inning and faced the top of the Seattle order, while Weissert was called on the retire the 4-5-6 hitters for the M's and got the job done thanks to a double play grounder from Dominic Canzone. Weissert seems to have earned the trust of manager Alex Cora, and over his last 15.2 innings dating back to May 16, the 30-year-old reliever has a 1.72 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB with a win and eight holds in addition to his recent batch of saves.
Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet Fans eight in seventh win
Wed, Jun 18, 2025, 8:16 PM
Crochet (7-4) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 3-1 victory over the Mariners. He struck out eight without walking a batter.
Analysis: The southpaw recorded his 10th quality start of the season on 96 pitches (70 strikes), including 17 swinging strikes. Crochet has provided the Red Sox with at least six inning in five straight trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's delivered a 2.65 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 47:6 K:BB through 34 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Angels.
Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman Will get tested out Wednesday
Wed, Jun 18, 2025, 2:35 PM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Bregman (quad) will undergo testing Wednesday to see where he's at strength-wise and to determine what's next in his progression, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Recovering from a right quad strain, Bregman resumed running in early June but noted last week he is running at only about 50 percent intensity. It's possible he'll receive the go-ahead Wednesday to accelerate his rehab, but the Red Sox should have more on the third baseman's status later this week. Bregman could skip a rehab assignment, but even if that happens he does not appear close to returning.
Jordan Hicks
Jordan Hicks Throwing live BP on Thursday
Wed, Jun 18, 2025, 2:27 PM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Hicks (toe) will throw a live batting practice session Thursday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Cora wasn't sure what the next step for Hicks would be after facing hitters Thursday, though he did indicate the hurler would need a rehab assignment before being activated from the 15-day injured list. Acquired from the Giants in the Rafael Devers trade, Hicks has been shelved since early June with right toe inflammation. He was moved to the bullpen by the Giants in mid-May and presumably will be in line for a relief role in Boston.
Kutter Crawford
Kutter Crawford Resumes mound work
Wed, Jun 18, 2025, 2:23 PM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Crawford (knee/wrist) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and will throw another one Friday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Crawford reverted back to playing catch after a recent bullpen session didn't go well, but he has now resumed mound work. The right-hander will continue to ramp things back up as he eyes a rehab assignment.
Connor Wong
Connor Wong Filling in for resting Narvaez
Wed, Jun 18, 2025, 11:51 AM
Wong will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Mariners.
Analysis: Though he'll get the start behind the dish in the series finale, Wong doesn't appear to be making a serious push to supplant Carlos Narvaez as the Red Sox's No. 1 catcher. Narvaez has produced a .917 OPS since the beginning of May, while Wong is slashing just .179/.289/.179 over that same stretch of action.
David Hamilton
David Hamilton Drawing third straight start
Wed, Jun 18, 2025, 11:47 AM
Hamilton will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Hamilton will pick up his third consecutive start at the keystone and has been an early beneficiary of Sunday's trade that sent Rafael Devers to San Francisco. His playing time could begin to dry up by the weekend, however, as the Red Sox are preparing to welcome another everyday player in Wilyer Abreu (oblique) from the injured list. Abreu's return will create a logjam in the outfield that could result in Roman Anthony seeing more starts at designated hitter and Kristian Campbell moving back to second base.
